unit 6: assignment 4

I feel that the Commandments are still talked about today, but not so much followed. It is very hard to keep to each law because of the way the world has changed. Not working on the Sabbath Day is almost impossible. We all have such busy lives that missing a day of work to just rest is out of the question. There are also a larger number of divorces, which means many people aren't following the 9th and 6th commandments. Our generation also tends to swear a lot using the Lord's name. It has become a habit in our language, but is still harmful to God. There are still wars going on, so murdering is still taking place. However there are less death sentences as punishments. I think that people today really break the last commandment. We are all envious of our friends possessions, especially with all the cool products on the market. Some of us know that material possessions won't make a person happy, but a lot of other people don't. Overall, I think more laws are being broken today then a hundred years ago, but I also think the circumstances have a lot to do with it.

I think the 3rd commandment is allowed to be broken the most. With every one's busy lifestyle, sitting around for a day doing nothing seems like a waste of time. Especially if you are missing a sports game or helping out at a community event. But other than that, the rest of the laws are very specific on how they want you to follow them. Although it's hard, it's for God, and serving him is the greatest act we will ever do.

unit 6: assignment 2

1) The Nicene Creed was formulated in the year 325 and later in the year 384.

2) I think I prefer the Nicene Creed over the Apostles Creed. It better states our belief in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It clearly lays out for believers exactly what we believe. It summarizes the bases of our beliefs. That is why I prefer the Nicene Creed over the Apostles, although both are very important.

unit 6: assignment 1

1) The apostles creed was written because people wanted a written document on Jesus' teachings and believes about God. It was also written to help defend the Gospel of Christ.

2) The Apostles Creed is a declaration of our faith to God. It's main message it that we fully belief in God and all the Jesus told us about him during his time on earth. We believe Jesus was truly the son of God and was raised from the dead. We proclaim that we believe in the church and all that it stands for and also in the Trinity.

Unit 4: assignment 1

As Valentine's Day is soon approaching, I will give the example of a heart. A heart symbolizes love and affection. It represents how people feel towards each other in a positive way. I believe it is a symbol because it represents more than a human organ, it represents love.

When I was in elementary I attended a private Catholic school. I did not truly understand why I was the only student who didn't receive the Eucharist. Many classmates often asked me why I didn't receive the Eucharist with them and for a long time I didn't have an answer. Then I realized it was because I was apart of a different diocese. I wasn't Catholic like them, I was Anglican. It was hard to explain as a child and even now, the differences between the two. But through it all, it made taking the Eucharist at my church more special. I felt how important it was for both diocese, and that made me really appreciate it.

Grace is unearned mercy or favors from God. When we sin and do wrong God forgives us when we are sorry.

unit 2:assignment 3&4

The Synoptic Problem is the question of how the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke are so similiar in their views. Questions arise of whether each gospel was written individually or if they based all their information on eye witness situations. Some believe in the Two-source Hypothesis which states the Matthew and Luke got a lot of their information and ideas from the writtings of Mark and another source called the "Q"source.

The Anglican view on the authority of the Bible is it is the medium through which God by the Spirit communicates his word in the Church and so enables people to respond with understanding and faith.

unit 2: assignment 2

The New Testament was written after 45 AD and before 140 AD. The original copy was written in Greek, the most comman language at the time.

The epistles are the 21 early letters in the third gospel.

Paul was born around year 10 and died around year 65. He didn't know Jesus personally in his life time, but was still able to know him really well. Paul wasn't always a Christian, in fact he used to persecute Christians. Until on the Road to Damascus he had a vision of the ressureted Christ and from then on was a strong believer. The New Testament to attributed mostly to Paul than any other author. He was a very important part our Christian history.
